WHAT IS HEALTHY LIFE?
What are Viagra and Cialis?Cialis and Viagra are both a similar type of drug with is used for treating erectile dysfunction (ED) or impotence. Both of them work the same way but the basic difference is that Cialis may have an effect that will last for around 36 hours while Viagra only lasts for about 5 hours.
Both of them are PDE5 inhibitors and are used for treatment of erectile dysfunction (ED) While there are no effects on the activity of Cialis due to food habits, there may be a decrease in the effectiveness of Viagra due to the same food habits. Cialis should be used only once a day and that too in smaller dosage. Cialis is also effective in treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) but the dosage of Cialis need to be reduced in men who have liver or kidney related problems as the risk of interactions may be much higher than with the usage Viagra. How do they work? Both the medicines belong to a class of medicine which is known as phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) and this work only in the presence of certain sexual activities as they rely on the release of nitrite oxide (NO) which is released naturally only during sexual arousal. Which one lasts for longer? In 1998, Viagra became the world’s first oral pill and the first PDE5 inhibitor which was approved for treating ED. Cialis, on the other hand, was approved for ED in 2003 and it became the third PDE5 inhibitor to be seen in the market. Cialis is somewhat stronger than its competitors as it lasts for a lot longer which is 36 hours while the others only last for about 4-5 hours. How quick can Cialis and Viagra work? Cialis after the dosage starts to work within a time of 16 to 45 minutes and the activity or effectiveness is affected by food habits of the user. On the other side, Viagra starts to work within 30 minutes, and the effect may seem to go down if the user has taken it after a high-fat meal, Viagra is suggested to be taken on an empty stomach to improve its effectiveness. It may be mentioned that although the effectiveness of Viagra is about 84 percent and Cialis is about 81 percent, men prefer to use Cialis as the duration of effect is much longer than that of Viagra. What is the usual dosage? Cialis can be taken on the regular dosage which is capped at 10 mg prior to any sexual activity. This dosage may also be increased if it is seen that the dosage in a person does not seem to work properly. The dosage may also be needed to be decreased if certain side effects are seen which may be intolerable. In terms of patients having BPH, the initial dosage of Cialis should be from 2.5 mg a day or 5 mg. People with BPH should take it at the same time each day if they use it on a regular basis. Viagra, on the other hand, is taken at a dose of 50mg that too when it is required at least 1 hour before getting involved in sexual activity. If it is seen that the dose is too low for being effective, then it can be increased to 100 mg but if the side effects seem to have an increase, then it should be decreased to 25 mg a day. Side effects of these medicines- The most common side effects of Cialis are- • Indigestion • Facial flushing • A runny nose • Back pain • A headache • Muscle ache Common side effects of Viagra use are similar to Cialis as well. These include • A headache • Dizziness • Blurry vision • Stuffy nose • Insomnia • Back and muscle pain Cialis, however, should be avoided by patients with heart disease, stroke or any sort of life-threatening disease relating to the heart which occurred with a period of 6 months. Similarly, men having any sort of chest pain during any sexual activity, high or low blood pressure and irregular heart rate should avoid it as well. However, none of these drugs should overdose and even if one does, immediate medical support should be sought as there may be greater effects or consequences.
