After the use of Morphine by the soldiers, they became addicted to the pain med. In the year 1905, the US Congress banned opium and the year passed the Pure Food and Drug Act, which required labeling of the contents of all the medicines. Thereafter new painkillers came on the market with approval from the Food and Drug Administration. This approval was made important for the pain meds as these drugs come with abusive, addictive and dependency properties. Still, we can see people misusing the pain meds. Tramadol Mechanism of Action The exact mechanism of the pain med is not yet clearly stated. Doctors and researchers have stated something regarding this pain med. They have said that the painkiller works similar to that of morphine in healing the pain. As all the painkillers work by blocking the sensation of pain from reaching the brain, Tramadol too works in a similar way. The painkiller binds the receptors in the brain which is responsible for transmitting the sensation of pain from throughout the body to the brain. When a person takes this painkiller, the pain med directly hits or acts on the mu opioid receptor. This then blocks the neurons (which carry signals) form communicating the Pain sensation with the brain. The effectiveness of the pain med can be seen once the drug gets absorbed into the blood. For example, if a person takes Tramadol 100 mg, this will take its peak say after two hours of consuming the pain med.
